Sheepish Probability is a classroom favourite — a fun, genuinely engaging way to explore one of maths' trickier conceptual distinctions: the difference between experimental and theoretical probability.
How It Works
Set in a custom Minecraft: Education Edition world, students conduct sheep-breeding probability experiments, recording results and calculating probabilities from their own data. Through hands-on experimentation, they build an intuitive understanding of why experimental results don't always match theoretical predictions — and what that means for our understanding of probability.
Who Is It For?
Originally developed for Year 8 Mathematics (13–14 year olds), Sheepish Probability has since been used successfully from Grade 5 through to Year 9. It works equally well as an introduction to probability concepts or as a reinforcement activity for students who have already encountered the theory.
