Mini Melbourne is perhaps the most ambitious Minecraft: Education Edition project EduElfie has been involved in — and one we are enormously proud of.
The Project
A collaborative project between the Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) and Rail Projects Victoria (RPV), Mini Melbourne brings a detailed, explorable recreation of Melbourne to Minecraft: Education Edition. Students can explore the city at their own pace, or choose to dive into the Archaeology Adventure — an immersive narrative experience available in Minecraft: Education Edition only.
Archaeology Adventure
The Archaeology Adventure puts students in the virtual shoes of an archaeologist employed by Rail Projects Victoria to explore one of the sites for the Metro Tunnel Project. Players are immersed in a game-mechanic-driven narrative that blends Melbourne's rich history with active, inquiry-based learning — an experience unlike anything previously seen in Minecraft: Education Edition.
Curriculum Links
Mini Melbourne comes with a full suite of supporting resources, with curriculum links spanning Years 4-9 across multiple learning areas. It is freely available for all teachers to download and use in their classrooms.
